I have incredibly limited knowledge on blue grass, but I knew of someone that was related to a friend of mine who's uncle sometimes listened to bluegrass, and he told me that it was incredibly underrated! I stumbled upon this lil' diddy over at hype machine, and well I immediately started searching of more stuff by this bluegrass cover band - Iron Horse. I'm a sucker for covers, if you can take an awesome song and remake it with a completely different sound, well that just is amazing... sometimes at least to me. Just to show you how great covers can be, Im going to throw in a cover of The Postal Service' "We Will Become Silhouettes" covered by the Shins!
Now I most likely won't start downloading lots of bluegrass bands (unless anyone has any great suggestions?), but wow as I listen to more of this Iron Horse, I'm really respecting this stuff! Check out more if you like this because I think these guys are great!
Iron Horse - New Slang (the Shins cover)
Iron Horse - Float On (Modest Mouse cover)
The Shins - We Will Become Silhouettes (The Postal Service cover)
Hoodie Allen's Pep Rally... Wow this shit is amazing. I haven't been this excited about a random find in a long time. I actually just bought his EP Bagels and Beats a few weeks ago, and while interesting I didn't think it was anything too amazing. As Edwin told me, this would definitely qualify as "fresh". The variety of music he samples is great. The second I saw Hoodie Allen feat. the Black Keys, I snapped. This new mixtape is blowing up on hype machine right now, and for good reason! I love when a new upcoming rapper hits the scene hard, and even though his EP from March of 2009 wasn't amazing, Pep Rally has turned some heads.
You can download the entire album here!

Sorry about that awful pun. (If You didn't already know, or put it together, It is named after Jorge Garcia or Hugo "Hurley" Rayes from "Lost") They met each other back stage before a late night tv show, and Rivers asked Garcia to get a picture with him. they took this picture which Weezer later cropped everything but his face and made their album cover.
New Weezer... Now before I start going on and on about my opinion of this new album and Weezer in general, I should admit I have quite the bias for Weezer. They were one of the first bands I listened to ever. Blink-182, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Weezer, they were my first bands. The genius that was "The Blue Album" (their debut album) is still one of my favorite albums of all time, songs like "Undone" "My Name is Jonas" "Buddy Holly" "Only In Dreams", and the AMAZING "Say it aint so" (I basically loved every song off the album I think there may have been 1 song I might not have been crazy about). They followed up with "Pinkerton" which I honestly never owned the entire thing, but it had my favorite song of ALL time. "El Scorcho" which I'll explain why "El Scorcho" is one of the greatest songs of all time, another time. After a few years Weezer was back with "The Green Album" which only increased their fan base, "Island In the Sun" is a must in any Itunes library, no matter what your music taste consists of.
I'll Jump forward to "The Red Album" (Maladroit, and Make Believe were decent, I don't really have an opinion. Make Believe was probably my least listened of all of their albums, I was a sucker for Beverly Hills, and Perfect Situation, but they both got old fast). I Remember not completely liking "The Red Album" at first, except for "Troublemaker". I was stuck on a road trip with my family and my Ipod, and I listened to more and more of "The Red Album" and it grew on me, pretty fast. Before I knew it "The Red Album" became almost a drug fix for me, I would start to get anxious if I hadn't listened to "The Greatest Man That ever Lived" for a few hours. My love for "The Red album" has gone down but I still respect it, and enjoy it more then most people.
"Raditude"... I was amazed at how fast it had come out after "The Red album" but I wasn't about to complain. Rainn Wilson (also known as Dwight Schrute from the office) named this album. Their single "Can't Stop Partying" was not my favorite Weezer song, but when the actual album came out I was surprised at how much I liked it "Love is the Answer" and "The Girl Got Hot' were my jams! In all I wasn't amazed but I had given up on waiting for another Green or Blue album. The reactions I observed were mostly "Weezer came out with a new album? meh." or "Sucks", this was harder for me to hear considering I've clung to Weezer like a religion. When I look back on it, it deserved more coverage, or more positive coverage.
Hurley
Now Weezer's new album... I was skeptical at first, expecting another album that only myself and my friend John would listen to and actually enjoy. "Memories" was their single which I wasn't too fond of at first but later grew to enjoy. The night before it came out I began to research and reviews were loving it or atleast loving it more then their last albums. I was getting incredibly excited if Weezer made a come back I would be able to shove an amazing "I told you so!" to all the people who lost hope in my favorite band. The actual album is much full of pep, energy, and honestly did give me a haunting chill of Blue and Green album, not directly, but they were so much closer than Red or Rad. I can feel how much heart they put into this album. Ofcourse I had my few songs I wasn't crazy about but I don;t think I will be able to express how relaxing it feels to listen to "Trainwrecks" or jam out to "Ruling Me". the relaxing chill ambiance that "Unspoken", "Trainwreck" and "Time Flies" is great. But I think what most people will catch will be the upbeat tempo of "Where's My Sex", "Ruling Me", "All my Friends are insects (if you got the Deluxe edition with the bonus tracks), and then my personal favorite song from the album "Smart Girls", I can't keep still while listening to this track! Now this could just be me but hot damn, this track is going on my top 10 Weezer songs list easily, (this is a competitive list). I hope you can enjoy Weezer's new Album Hurley as much as me!
Apparently on November 2nd, 2010 they are releasing Pinkerton Deluxe edition! and some other never-released Weezer songs later, along with River Cuomos solo work. So we will be getting more Weezer for us to obsess over.
Cudi opened with REVOFEV and it was sick. Unfortunatey my camera was messing up last night and i only had 12 minutes of film and had to prioritize, wish ! could have gotten it all though...
This was a in the middle of a 3 track nonstop dance party. It started out with Day N' Nite, lead into Memories, and then ended with... crap i can't remember. But we got the room going.
Heart Of a Lion was his last song, good shit.
Now Embrace the Martian was probably 1 of my favoritist songs he played last night, it was incredible, that's all.
Wow I love this old Kanye sound, featuring some amazing artists Pusha T, Common, KiD CuDi,Big Sean, and Charlie Wilson. Piano with any rap music has got to be one of my favorite uses of piano. Speaking of Fridays, mine was DAMN Oaks! The KiD CuDi & Shiny Toy Guns Concert I went to was pretty amazing, while Shiny toy Guns opened and weren't too amazing, KiD CuDi was absolutely amazing! I'll post some Video of KiD CuDi later but until then, I'll post Up Up & Away (The Wake & Bake Song) just because that was one of his best live songs, just the energy in it was unimaginable.
Kanye West - Good Friday (feat. Common, Pusha T, Kid Cudi, Big Sean & Charlie Wilson)
This is one of the most chill songs I've encountered in a while, and I continually find myself starting at the beginning of my playlist, with Windstorm by School of Seven Bells at the top. Their newest album "Disconnect from Desire" is full of more great dreamy pop. I'm actually quite unfamiliar with dream pop, but if it means more Windstorm, I think its about time I start listening to more dream pop. Here are two great songs from School of Seven Bells most recent album "Disconnect from Desire".
So KiD CuDi is one of my favorite artists of all time. What's not to like about him? His chill beats are perfect for any situation. Anything this man pumps out I get my hands on as soon as I can, along with the now huge fan base he has created, all awaiting his new album "Man On The Moon II: The Legend of Mr Rager" which has been pushed back to November 9th, 2010. MOTM (Man On The Moon) was KiD CuDi's first CD, and was meant to bring you into CuDi's dream world, while MOTM II brings the listener into CuDi's reality, with dark tones that we can hear in the singles he has dropped this summer "Mojo So Dope" "I Do My Thing" "Mr Rager" and (well undetermined, to my knowledge, on whether it will be on his CD) "All Talk". These all have a chill, dark ambiance, but then you have "Erase Me" for example which is a bit faster and with more mainstream feel (well with Kanye West), but even with a lot of fans disappointed with this track (which I actually enjoyed it, although I would never say that I liked this style over his older, more original style). The way I see it is that "Erase Me" fits in the CD perfectly because it's part of his reality as he said, coming out with a hit that may not necessarily be in is comfort zone of his method, it's what he has to do to stay afloat in the music business.
Anyways I'm quite ecstatic because later this evening KiD CuDi is going to be putting on a concert for The University of Wisconsin Milwaukee's Pantherfest (which is my college if you didnt out those together). CuDi is heading to the University of Minnesota TC later for their homecoming, and I'm quite excited for all my friends who stayed in the TC. Hopefully I will get my Flip Video Camera to work and I'll get some KiD CuDi along with Shiny Toy Guns and post them up on here later. But it should be a pretty amazing concert.
Instead of posting his newest singles "Did You Get It" and "Mr Rager" because hopefully you have those already, I thought I'd share Steve Aoki Remix of Pursuit Of Happiness, along with the folk band Barbara's cover of Pursuit of Happiness. I can be a huge sucker for covers especially when they are a slowed down simplified version of the song. Steve Aoki's Remix is an amazing remix among hundreds of incredibly mediocre remixes, and mash-ups with "Pursuit Of Happiness" in the mix. These are two great songs you don't want to miss.
Barbara - "Pursuit of Happiness (KiD CuDi Cover)"
KiD CuDi - "Pursuit of Happiness (Steve Aoki REMIX)"
